As Yachiru’s group races towards the execution grounds, Yachiru tells them she will go on ahead and help Ichigo since he might be there. Orihime thanks her as their group continues to press onward.
We return to Rukia where Genryuusai says he will grant her request of sending back the outsiders unharmed after her execution. She is thankful, although we hear Isane say it’s cruel that Genryuusai won’t be sending them back alive. The orders are now given for Soukyoku to be released. Rukia says to herself that she has become calm again, and will face death with no regrets. She is raised up to the stand as the true form of Soukyoku is finally released. It is the form of a gigantic bird set ablaze. Genryuusai explains that this is King Kikou, the final enforcer of extreme punishment. Rukia says to herself that she is not afraid and has lived well. She thanks those close to her as well as those who tried to save her, and tearfully says goodbye as she thinks of Ichigo. As the episode goes to break, Rukia closes her eyes as the Soukyoku proceeds forward to end her life.
We return to see the Soukyoku rushing forward, but all of the sudden it is stopped in front of Rukia. The crowd below gasps and is shocked to see that someone has blocked the Soukyoku’s attack. Rukia opens her eyes to see Ichigo in front of her. She is suprised to see him, but also angry as she tells him that she was prepared to die. Rukia tells Ichigo that he will be killed and shouts that he should go home. Meanwhile, the Captains question who stopped the Soukyoku which has the destructive power of one million Zanpakutou. Kyouraku mentions that it appears the outsiders were the ones who arrived in time. The Soukyoku now backs up to make his second attack. As Ichigo goes to attack it head-on, Ukitake arrives and ropes the Soukyoku with the Shihouin crest. Kyouraku joins Ukitake in his efforts as they both shove their Zanpakutous into the crest. This sends a line of energy up the ropes with explodes the Soukyoku in all directions. As this is going on, Ichigo goes over to Rukia and with a powerful jab breaks apart the Soukyoku stand that holds her. Ichigo now clutches Rukia under his arm. He tells her that things will work out this time, and that he’s come to save her. The Captains and Vice-Captains stand there stunned as Rukia remarks to herself that Ichigo has become strong.
Loud commotion is heard as Ichigo looks down to see Renji. Rukia and Renji are overjoyed to see eachother. Ichigo throws Rukia down to Renji and tells him to protect her with his life. As he runs away, the Vice-Captains are ordered to chase after him. As they start to run towards him, Ichigo flashes before them. The Vice-Captains release their Zanpakutous but Ichigo rushes forward and knocks them all out with his bare hands. As Ichigo goes to grab his Zanpakutou, Byakuya runs up and clashes swords with Ichigo. Ichigo tells Byakuya that he can see through his moves, as a decisive battle is about to unfold.
